Editor Italo Vescovo discovered these gems in the Casanatense Library in Rome.Lacking a date or any other useful references, these unique duets are thought to stem from Paganini’s youth, when he was studying with Alessandro Rolla and subsequently, under Gasparo Ghiretti with whom he had studied counterpoint and had written many pieces. The two canons carry strains of the virtuoso’s future grand compositions. Here however, both canons can be played in first position. Here is a treat for future young virtuosi to cut their teeth while enjoying these special pieces from this teenage prodigy. (Mary Nemet)
